Bom Jesus do Monte, Braga, Portugal

Bom Jesus do Monte is a Portuguese sanctuary located around the city of Braga , in the north of the country His name means ‘Good Jesus of the Mount’. The Shrine is a remarkable example of a pilgrimage site . Its most prominent feature is its baroque monumental stairs , which save an unevenness of 116 meters. It is an important tourist attraction of the city of Braga.
Numerous summits in Portugal and other parts of Europe have been places of religious devotion since ancient times, and it is possible that Bom Jesus Hill was one of them. However, the first indication of the existence of a chapel on the hill dates from 1373 . This chapel – dedicated to the Holy Cross – was rebuilt in the 15th and 16th centuries. In 1629 a pilgrimage church dedicated to Bom Jesus (Good Jesus) was built, with six chapels dedicated to the Passion of Christ
