In November 2013, it was announced that Malaga would have a headquarters of the Georges Pompidou 7 National Center of Art and Culture .

The protocol agreement signed in 2013 stipulated that the Center would have a five – year renewable residence and works from the collection of Parisian Beaubourg will be displayed in exhibitions semipermanent two and a half years as well as temporary exhibitions shorter. In February 2018, given the success of the public reached by the Center (500,000 visits in three 10 years ), both parties renewed the agreement for five more years, so it is currently in force until 2025 11 .

Building
The container of the center is a building called El Cubo , a space designed by the City Planning Department through its architects Javier Pérez de la Fuente and Juan Antonio Marín Malavé located at the confluence of the Walks of La Farola and Los Cures, and of Pier 1 and Pier 2 of the Port of Malaga. It has an area of approximately 7,600 square meters of which around 6,300 meters are occupied by the exhibition areas. It has two floors, level 0 (access) and level -1. In the level 0 are the areas of services and free access: store, slogans and Young Public Space. In addition, on this floor is the temporary exhibition hall. On level -1 are the exhibition spaces of the semi-permanent collection as well as the auditorium 12 . The upper floor, the roof of the building, is completely transparent and is crowned by a large skylight shaped like a cube made of steel and glass, which acts as a visible skylight and gives its name to the whole. In this cube Daniel Burencarried out the installation ‘Incubé’ in 2015, which has become the icon of the Center Pompidou Málaga . This artistic intervention, symbol of the institution in the landscape of the city, was bought by the city hall of the capital in 2017.
