Our daughter, Irina, has written a novel, Lost Believers, and it is coming out August 1 from Scribner. Inspired by true events, the book is about a meeting between two women in 1970s Soviet Russia—an ambitious geologist exploring for iron ore and a deeply religious homesteader living in isolation with her family on the Siberian taiga—that irrevocably changes the course of both of their lives.
Reviewers have called it “wondrous, ruthless and full of surprises,” and said that “like her characters, Zhorov has deep respect for the physical world, and she honors it with poetic language… An elegant, melancholy debut written in gorgeous prose.”
It would mean so much if you considered pre-ordering the book. You can do so anywhere books are sold, including Amazon, but it will help her more if you order it from your local bookstore. That way the book seller may become more aware of the novel, be more likely to stock it, and perhaps handsell it to other customers who ask for recommendations.
Irina will also be going on book tour! Some of the dates are still unconfirmed, but if you are in Philadelphia she’ll be reading from Lost Believers at Head House Books on August 8, at 6:30PM.
