The Story of Icarus (Correr museum, Venice)
The myth of flying too close to the sun features Daedalus and his son Icarus, who were imprisoned by King Minos and escaped using wings made of feathers and wax. Daedalus warned Icarus not to fly too high or too low, but Icarus, exhilarated by flight, ignored his father and flew toward the sun. The sun’s heat melted the wax, causing his wings to disintegrate and him to fall into the sea. The story is a cautionary tale about the dangers of excessive pride (hubris) and the need to respect limits.
