Visit of Natasha gave us a great opportunity to do one way bike rides- Driver! We drove to town Sisters where we started our McKenzie Pass Scenic ride. How many rides take you somewhere that are like nothing you’ve ever seen? McKenzie Pass is this kind of ride- it leads you through meadows, pine woods with clear, fragrant, pine-smelling air to a lava-rock moonscape at the top that spreads out before you for miles. Snow covered mountains towering on the sides of the road with the last winter snow still visible here and there. The best part, of course, the 25-mile, 4,000-foot descent to Highway 126 which snakes down exhilarating switchbacks to the dense, lush Cascadian forests and rushes out over the McKenzie River. Arks “road burn” did not spoil our fun- some leave hearts in Oregon, some –skin.
